Over the weekend, storms in Texas led to significant flooding in areas around Houston, requiring a multi-state response to serve people who have been affected. Impact Disaster Response is currently on standby to respond to flooding in Texas, and we are asking cleanup and crisis care volunteers to begin preparing to go.
Currently, the communities we may be asked to serve are still under flood waters, and until the waters recede teams cannot enter. We are working with North Carolina Baptists and other baptist disaster response groups in our region to mobilize a response to one of the communities North of Houston that are currently still flooded. This means we are currently in “wait and see mode”, but we can start preparing our teams to go.
When we have an official callout, we will communicate that information, and volunteers will register directly through North Carolina Baptists. The Impact Disaster Response office will work with volunteers on travel, including a stopover at the halfway point.
Please pray for those currently affected, the initial search and rescue response, and everyone who will serve in the recovery ahead.
