Through Disaster Temporary Child Care, we have an opportunity to care for kids and parents at a time when care and attention are vital needs in their lives.

Virginia Baptist Disaster Response is revitalizing this important component of our ministry.

Are you interested in being involved?

There are a few ways to be involved:

Rebuilding Team
[2-3 Individuals]

We need to coordinate the effort of updating our first childcare unit with new equipment, supplies and get the unit ready to respond. This team will work with our Disaster Response Coordinator to make key decisions about what toys, resources, equipment will be stocked in the unit and how it should be organized.

Rebuilding Team members should have:

– a passion for working with kids
– recent experience in kids ministry
– logistical, detail and/or creative gifts

Additional folks may be enlisted to help make purchases, build equipment, etc., but the Rebuilding Team will make these key decisions.

Blue Hat Team
[2-3 Individuals]

When the unit is ready to go, we will need a team leader to respond with team members and the unit (The “blue hat” is the Baptist symbol for a team leader).

Here’s what we’re looking for:

– volunteer or staff children’s ministry experience, ideally directing a department (leading the leaders)
– organized with an attention to detail
– willing to lead the team
– able to respond to a need with short notice (typically a few days)

Blue Hats will receive additional training on the operation of the Temporary Childcare location, including staffing, safety & security, and daily operations.

Stocking Team
[2-3 Individuals]

Once the Rebuilding Team decides what should be stocked in the unit, we’ll need to buy it. Do you enjoy shopping from a list, researching bargains and spending someone else’s money? This might be the opportunity for you!

Construction Team
[2-3 Individuals]

Some aspects of the unit may need to be rebuilt, including construction of carts, storage containers and other components of the trailer. Know someone with this passion?
