Impact Disaster Response will be preparing meals for Tuesday (November 14, 2023) of the BGAV annual meeting, and volunteers can be trained to prepare meals and deploy when a disaster strikes. One of the first opportunities to serve when a disaster strikes is feeding people who have been displaced. With the last few storms, we have needed to respond quickly and support our feeding site without a lot of traditional outside support. When Buchanan County experienced flooding last summer, we were able to deploy feeding within hours because our feeding unit was on-site in Grundy and had a small team that could get in place quickly. As those kinds of smaller responses become the norm, we are embracing a quick-response model for feeding to complement our larger feeding units designed for long-term responses. In November, we will be deploying our new Quick Response feeding unit and training any interested volunteers in disaster response feeding with that unit. Meeting attendees will have the option for lunch and dinner on-site, and volunteers can sign up for a training slot at lunch or dinner. Providing a hot meal or a cold cup of water in Jesus’ name is at the core of disaster response, and we’re thrilled to offer this opportunity at the annual meeting in November.
