Impact Disaster Response has been developing an initiative to build tiny homes for people whose homes are damaged beyond repair during a disaster. We shared information and demonstrated the design at BGAV annual meeting in November, and we want to provide an update on the homes. We are currently developing a set of detailed plans and supply list that we can share with churches that will build the next homes. The first one is already occupied, and the second is nearly ready for use as well. These homes can be temporary housing while a new permanent home is constructed or can be permanent housing for some homeowners, and we need your help to ensure we are ready when the next disaster strikes.
We anticipate having several Tiny home builds this summer in partnership with local churches who will host the build at their site and work with us to provide teams to oversee the construction of each home. They will be stored until needed for a storm.
We see a lot of potential for future development beyond disaster situations – we are in conversation about tiny homes as a method for addressing affordable housing in communities and other housing-related needs. If you have already signed up, you should have received at least one update from us since you signed up. We will communicate next steps as soon as the plan is finalized and approved, and we are ready to assign our first build sites.
