Baltimore, Md. – May 1, 2015 – With the ongoing response of the Maryland National Guard to the situation in Baltimore, the Maryland/Delaware Baptist Convention on Thursday requested the use of the Virginia Baptist Disaster Response laundry unit. The unit and four volunteers arrived in Maryland this morning.
While in the Baltimore area, the laundry unit will provide laundry services for National Guard troops as their stay continues through the weekend. A local church is providing lodging and meals while the team is on the ground.
The laundry unit features 5 large washing machines and 4 large dryers, utilizes an onboard hot water heater and can connect to a local power source or run off a generator.
The unit recently returned from Kilmarnock where it provided laundry services in place of the town laundromat which had been destroyed by fire last fall.
Trained disaster relief volunteers interested in joining the unit’s continued response in the Baltimore region should call the Disaster Relief Hotline.
Virginia Baptist Disaster Response is supported by the generosity of Virginia Baptists through Cooperative Gifts, the Alma Hunt Offering for Virginia Missions and the donations of individuals and churches. Give online here.
