Impact Disaster Response continues to respond in Damascus, Virginia and surrounding areas. We have completed the chainsaw and cleanup jobs and have shifted to repair and rebuild as homes that were damaged continue to dry. Teams will continue to serve in Damascus until all home repairs are completed. Volunteer teams who serve there will focus mostly on construction rather than cleanup. We are currently scheduling teams through April 2025.
In any response, volunteer hours can assist a local community as part of their matching requirement to access funds from FEMA. Impact Disaster Response volunteers have had the following impact in the communities where they have served:
Feeding – 95 volunteers had a total economic impact of $74,347
Cleanup/Chainsaw – 180 volunteers had a total economic impact of $271,269
Rebuild – we are currently accommodating up to 20-25 volunteers for rebuild, with a potential economic impact of $45,000 per week.
North Carolina Baptists are shifting their response to rebuild and will be accepting rebuild teams soon. They have requested that any cleanup teams not already confirmed stand down and look toward rebuild. We will share those updates and opportunities to serve as they become available. We thank you for your patience as we work to ensure we can meet needs while not overwhelming the communities we are serving.
Please continue to pray for those affected by Helene and for all those responding to the need. Please remember with so many active responses across the country, volunteer teams will need to be fluid as the situation on the ground in each affected area develops.
