CALLOUT – Disaster Response and Hurricane Helene

Updated Friday, October 11

As recovery continues in several counties in Southwest Virginia, the region is beginning to prepare for long-term recovery. We will continue to receive requests for assistance with cleanup and tree removal (chainsaw), but we are moving our focus toward long-term recovery and rebuild. Teams continue to serve out of our site in Damascus, local churches across the region continue to help their neighbors, and we are beginning church partnerships to meet needs in other localities as we become aware. To continue the work in Virginia, we will need teams with all areas of skill – especially construction, volunteer feeding, crisis care, and admin.

Along with work in Virginia, which has been our focus, we have received urgent requests from South Carolina and Georgia for chainsaw teams (Hurricane Helene) and Florida for flood recovery teams (Hurricane Milton). We are currently contacting volunteers who registered to serve in Southwest Virginia about whether they can divert to one of our sister states to help them with their recovery, and we invite you to register your availability as well. Priority will be given to trained volunteers, but we can send untrained volunteers as well.

There are many ways you can help:
Pray – please pray for those affected in every state that suffered damage from Helene and Milton.

Give – you can click the yellow banner at the top of this page to go directly to a giving page for this response. You can also follow this link to find out how to make flood buckets for homeowners in flood-damaged areas.

Go – please register below if you are able to serve – even if you registered previously – as we need additional information to know where you are able to deploy.
