Scripture Passage: “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” (1 Peter 4:10 NIV)
When we welcome the new year, it is only natural to become more aware of the passage of time. It seems as if the older we become, time marches on a bit quicker than the previous year. As we reflect on the past year and think about what’s to come, we may have the realization that we aren’t as young as we once were. Our eyesight might need a little help with glasses, or our joints might stiffen in the cold weather. It’s easy to allow doubt to creep in about our ability to serve. What if I can’t do as much as I used to do?
Scripture reminds us that service is an integral part of our faith, and the call to serve never stops. No matter what our age or ability might be, we all have gifts that can be used to serve others. Our communities and beyond need those who are willing to share their talents. Whether it’s physical work, financial support, prayer, or relationship building, we can all be agents of change.
As we express gratitude for another year, let’s put mission in our plans! We’ve got gifts that are valuable in God’s Kingdom, and our world is in desperate need of the hope and love of Christ. Will you be a faithful steward of what you’ve been given?
